it was a wild weekend

It was a wild weekend. Everything we did was wild or "kinda" wild.

Saturday we attended another well done event organized by Inside the Outdoors. We watched an animal show, hiked with a naturalist, drummed in a drum circle, and made recycled crafts.

These...

Became these...

Yes, that is a mountain lion on her face. It looks just like the one on her shirt, don't you think?

Today we visited the Wild Animal Park in Escondido.

potential firefighters?

Last Saturday was the yearly open house at the Orange County Fire Stations. Each year we visit a different one. This year we met our friends at station 45 in Rancho Santa Margarita. The girls and I got a kick out of it and I learned some new things such as why this station has 3 refrigerators and how many gallons of water their engine holds.

The girls were oohing over the walk-in pantry. That was kind of funny. They really liked the command center fire bus used during wildfires and Serena LOVED to test drive each truck. At the end of the visit I polled the girls about what they want to be when they grow up. Only one girl wants to be a firefighter. Serena. Julia, now, wants to be a chef. Hmmm.

Thomas F.Riley Wilderness Park

Orange County has a ton of wilderness areas. We have visited a few this year and today we took a hike at one we have never been. Riley. This park is a wildlife sanctuary with coastal sage and old groves of Coastal Live Oaks and Western Sycamores. A small butterfly garden housed a few fun things for the girls. Of course, mountain lions are always on my mind since there are signs posted everywhere to beware. Eek! We have never seen any since they are, for the most park, elusive. Thank goodness.
