thursday's agenda

Today was nice. Beautiful weather. Good company. Great memories.

It started with a nice walk this morning. Serena and I walked Julia to school. It was nice and relaxing and Serena walked the entire way without crying for me to carry her. Yes, that was nice.

Then I ran some errands and visited Serena's school for a Mother's Day event. She made me some sweet gifts and sang some sweet tunes.

Next, we took my mom out for lunch. Very nice.

Once we got home the girls and I headed to the harbor for a quiet afternoon walk.

Hugs

Homework and now dinnertime that James is cooking. Pierogies, spinach, and potato pancakes, yum!

After that we are off to dance practice.

Such a serene, easy, stress free day. I wish they were all like this.

looking back 2009 - post #2 - tallship festival

In September the girls and I headed down to the harbor for the annual Tall Ship Festival. We visited one of our fun local places, The Ocean Institute. Fish were watched, bird were petted, pirates were eyed. Adjacent to the institute were 6 ships tethered together. We toured all of them. The girls favorite parts of the ships were going below to see the beds and carefully crossing from ship to ship. Later, Julia took part in a pirate show which was for sure the highlight of her day. Serena on the other hand cried at those scary pirates.

it's not over until it's over...

Kindergarten begins on Tuesday for little miss J. She will love it!

We will now need to conform to a "school year" calendar which means we can't just go away on a whim anymore. We have three more days of summer recess left to sleep in, relax, and have fun.

Since the weather has been unbearably hot lately we have spent much of our time in and around the beach, harbor, lake, and other bodies of water to cool off.

Here are some of my favorite pics from this past week.

a day outside

Today was a good day. This morning I met my friend and her sweet baby at the DP harbor, one of my favorite places to walk, hang out, people watch, drink coffee, etc. Speaking of people watching there was an interesting NCIS moment that happened. As we were walking over the bridge to the island we noticed the FBI searching a big boat. We could not take our eyes away. We were dying to know what happened, but we did not ask the agents when we walked passed them later. Too chicken and it is not like they are going to tell us.

Later I took the girls to Casper Wilderness Park off Ortega Highway.

It is only a few miles from our house and feels a million miles away. Let me just say it was empty. Of course, it was 90+ degrees, but that place is always empty. They have an awesome playground area. Then we went up to the nature center, which was not open today, but we took in the views from the observation deck. We also viewed an old historic windmill and mining car.

There are mountain lions out here.

The dry San Juan Creek bed is down on the bottom right. If you look real close in the upper right portion of the picture and see the two white water towers, that is where I have worked for the last 16 years. Beautiful. (click to enlarge)

Here the girls are making rock pies. I have been informed they are just like mud pies, but with rocks. Of course.
